@ Nutter... "Both are well within their right to term themselves the best ODI side" I really cannot see your logic in that statement... Since it's inauguration, apart from a brief spell by Sth Africa, Australia have been the only other team to occupy the number 1 position in that table. India have never been number 1. Added to that, Australia have won 4 World Cups, (in India/Pakistan - 1997, in England - 1999, in W Indiies - 2003 and in Sth Africa - 2007) Note..not one of these tournaments was played in Australia... On the other hand, India have won 2, (in England - 1983 and India/Bangladesh/Sri Lanka - 2011.) Note..all but one of India's matches in 2011 was played in India. So perhaps you could explain what criteria you have used to justify that statement.

For me winning the WC means your the best team. The ranking is a marketing gimmick by the ICC.
It could be better described in boxing terms, if you are ranked 1 and WC champions - you could be dubbed the undisputed best side.
Australia and India have half each, so make of it what you will. |

@Nutter.... "Both are well within their right to term themselves the best ODI side" Flawed logic I'm afraid. Take World Cup tournaments as an example.. India won the last World Cup... They did not play every team in the event, nor did they win every match in the event, and with the exception of one match in Bangladesh, they played every match in India. One tournament where they played some of the teams in it and came out top. In real terms, what they have done is to win 2 such tournaments out of the 10 that have been played. Australia, using the same criteria, but without any home advantage, have won 4 World Cups.. I make that a 2:1 advantage to Australia.. Now to the ODI Table. Since its inauguration in 2002 India have never ever topped this table.. To quote some recent figures, in the years (2006 to 2011 inc), Australia have topped the table for 62 months out of a possible 72.. the other 10 being Sth Africa. Now tell me.. by what logic do you think India has the right to claim to be the number 1 ODI side in the world... |

You say India won with home advantage, but Australia have hosted 2 World Cups and failed to win either. So maybe they feel the heat when they are in front of their home fans.
As I said before, I believe that anyone holding the World Cup is the true number 1.
Whats the point in being number 1, beating everyone without having the World Cup.
Winning the World Cup means you held you nerve when others lost theirs.
I don't get the comparison with Australia and India either. Australia had one of the greatest sides ever, therefore logic dictates they would win more World Cups. |

False logic... All it means is that you have beaten some teams in one competition which takes place every 4 years
quote: Whats the point in being number 1, beating everyone without having the World Cup.
You've just proved the point...you've beaten everyone and you don't need any medal/cup or any other trophy, the stats prove it

Not really, Australia lost their last ODI series in England and India. Plus South Africa won their last ODI series in Australia.

Dunno ask the England team. Pietersen is dubbed the premier player, yet apart from a fluke 227 in Adelaide and bullying a weak Indian side, he's done sod all for nearly 3 years. |

| It really is not worth the effort trying to have a sensible discussion with someone as blind to the facts as you are and who also firmly believes that anything that England,or any member of the England team does or has done, is nothing but a fluke. So off you go into that wonderland which you obviously inhabit, where I've no doubt, that because ignorance is bliss and it's folly to be wise, you'll live happily ever after. Oh !.. and as an afterthought, have you ever thought why this site is so devoid of contributors.. If you haven't, I'll enlighten you... It's because of people like you... Goodbye !!! |
