In my current league, while your team is batting you often have to take the role of Square Leg Umpire.
But there always seems to be that added pressure on you to make a call. I found that in my last game the oposing team were making calls that were no where near out, but this seems to add doubt into the umpire.
Is this something restricted to my league or common practice.
I think lower team leagues have one umpire, ours have two. We find it a joke when someone needs to stand in. But hopefully decisions dont need to be made that often. I would hate only to have one umpire.
All our games from 3rd XI to 4th XI and friendlies are self umpired. You always get one or two teams who tend to cheat a little and the odd person who doesn't know what they are doing. Its never a major issue, it usually accepted that unless its clearly out then its not going to be given. IF everyone sticks to that principle you cant go too wrong.
