Hi guys this is the fist bat review I`ve done so apologies in advance if here are any mistakes. Ive been after a new bat since half way through the previous season so during january I thought i`d go pick out a new bat from the Newbery Chalet. On arrival the guys there asked me a few simple questions on what i was looking for, and I gave them a few specifications i was looking for. At first i was going through a bunch of bats in one of the drums and i couldnt find anything that appealed to me. A few minutes later one of the specialist bat makers came out with what he said were the best he had at the time. I tried a few and had another quick look before I narrowed my search down to 2 Krakatoa`s(Which I asked for anyway). Eventually i picked the one that felt best for me and didnt go for the one that was probably better cosmetically, although I feel mine is still a lovely looking bat aswell as having great performance. The bat has 9 grains and fairly thickish edges and is said to be in size harrow but the guy said its basically a super short adult one. After using the bat for a few weeks against the bowling machine and in indoor nets I found that the bat has an excellent middle and that even when you dont quite find it the ball really still does `ping` off. The middle of the bat is quite low and is what i wanted due to my home wicket generally being a soft slowish one but this doesn`t affect the pick up at all. However after knocking in the higher parts of the bat more and using it indoors its starting to come off better and better every week. The krakatoa is not the best suited for indoor nets as they are generally very bouncy but outdoors im sure it will perform. Overall I would reccommend the guys at Newbery and any of their bat as they are great bat makers and the balance of there bats are generally spot on. Most of the bats there are lovely and im sure that if you did make a visit theyd be able o find one that suits you. The prices are slightly high for the top end bats but your bat will soon start to repay you with runs. Pictures will be up shortly http://i1130.photobucket.com/albums/m529/thedevil1995/IMG_1158.jpg
Thanks Hazza. Its been good for the3 first week it took a bit of getting used to due to me always having an UZi before. But every week it seems to be getting better. Thing it will be going brilliant when the season comes, but overall impressed so far. The handle is also very sprinbgy which i like
Cheers flare, yeah it is hard to adjust. I taped the lower part off the bat as I felt that as I'd be hitting it there most of the time(hopefully) and therefore it would help protect the willow. Also on my previous newbery the edges started to dent and o felt I'd try and prevent this.
