However Tom I very much agree with you on the topic. Unfortunately people still have the choice to smoke these days and there is nothing to stop them. It's a personal choice at the end of the day but professionals should certainly attempt some effort.

and drinking - well that goes hand in hand with smoking.

I accept 100% that it is the choice of the person to smoke. But, I think it shows that these kind of people, if they want to make a career out of sport they have to have more will to win!

If they want to make a career out of sport?
Rob Key is arguably one of the best batsmen in the country..I think he is doing a good job and making a decent career out of sport..

OK Ben! I dont want people to think that I would judge someone based on the fact that they smoke. I'm trying to say that I dont think professional sportsmen should smoke!

C-Dog Slightly contradictory.. smoking and drinking are both bad for you...so why disagree with the comsumption of one and not the other?

many cricketers smoke -
shane warne, matthew maynard, rob key, matthew walker etc

Not really sure I agree with you here..

There is nothing wrong with drinking in moderation, and in fact studies have shown that drinking wine in moderation is actually beneficial. Alcohol can damage the liver but only when consumed in very large amounts..

On the other hand smoking even in moderation can be damaging to ones health. Cigarettes have been shown to cause cancers (due to the benzopyrene+P43 I think?) - especially lung cancer. In fact even inhaling another persons cigarette smoke can cause health problems...

So I'm kind of with Tom here...
