Champions Trophy an important event for my cricket future: Afridi

KARACHI, Sept. 11 (APP):- Pakistan Twenty20 Captain Shahid Khan Afridi said on Thursday evening that forthcoming ICC Champions Trophy is an important and crucial event for the future of his cricket.“A lot depends on my performance in the Champions Trophy in South Africa and I am looking forward to this elite 8-team competition,” he told a gathering at reception hosted in his honor by Samama Builders here for his outstanding performance in T20 World Cup in England where Pakistan beat Sri Lanka in the final at Lords.

“If I am not that successful in Champions I may consider quitting the game for good. But I will be putting in my best effort for the country and the team,” he commented.

He however, said it will be the toughest of cricketing events as the best eight teams will be in action and battling for supremacy.

He said he was surprised that instead of Karachi City Cricket Association - a private person was honoring him for his accomplishments in T20 World Cup.

“I think KCCA should have done that because I had been playing for Karachi for long time and they nurtured and groomed my talent,” he maintained.

A gold medal was presented to Shahid Afridi for his excellence in the T20 World Cup where he won the man of the match awards in the semifinal against South Africa and Sri Lanka in the final.

Former Chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Lt.Gen. (Rtd) Tauqir Zia complimented Shahid Afridi for his superb performance which paved the way for Pakistan winning the world crown.

Afridi without any shadow of doubt is Pakistan cricket history’s most popular player,” he said.

In the past he used to play for the public but now he playing for the team and the country, he added.

The reception was largely attended by former test cricketers, sports organizers and officials.
