I'd like to see it happen, but do you think it will? I don't think it will sadly. Not for a good 10-20 years if it does.
Women's golf, tennis, swimming etc all draw decent crowds and decent prize mney for the players. It might be a long way behind the men's competitions, but I guess prize money is related to ticket sales and revenue from advertising and media exposure.
Do you think women's cricket will ever be one of those sports that has an (almost) equal billing on tv and in the public interest? I know Australian tv shows a fair amount of women's golf. The women's tennis rates very well. We cheer for our female swimmers just as hard as for the men. But I'd be hard pressed to name more than 2 of our female cricketers.
One idea that I think happened in the recent T/20 was to have the women's game on the same ground, just before the men's game. Like having a colts or reserves footy game on before the senior game. |
