Just watching the current windies - SL series on tv, and it really does look like the windies are beginning to arrest the slide to the bottom echelons of the rankings, a state which sadly saw a player as uniquely brilliant as Brian Lara never experience the success his talent might've expected. The current side, in my view well lead by Chris Gayle (won in SA, could win the current match against SL), who has looked somewhat transformed by captaincy - as wayward players sometimes can be, look to have the core of a competitive team. If they can build a side around sarwan, chanderpaul, bravo, gayle, edwards, ramdin, and players like samuels, taylor and powell can achieve a more professional manner, some consistency and a big-match temperament - they could really challenge the best again, and i for one would love to see a strong windies again. of course the domestic game and the windies board to get their act togethor, but it looks promising... Any thoughts? |
