Posted - 25/02/2012 : 05:40:42 Hi all,
I purchased a GM Luna 505 on ebay in Australia and I am concerned I have purchased a fake bat.
Here is some evidence:
1. English willow made in India?
Edward Lowy on this forum said "we have only ever made English Willow bats in Nottingham" http://www.cricketsupplies.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=20423&whichpage=4
However my bat says 'ENGLISH WILLOW MADE IN INDIA UNDER LICENCE", and Made in India on the handle Photo: http://imgur.com/FL3hH http://imgur.com/17rFS
2. On the back of the bat there are no 'scoops' under the two 'scoop' stickers - the back is a simple curve with no scoops as per the other photos and video I found online. Video showing LUNA scoops: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_lgUt8VNbPk Photos of scoops of GM website: http://www.gm-cricket.com/range/adult_bats/luna-dxm.aspx My bat: http://imgur.com/vBq5b http://imgur.com/NV9UY http://imgur.com/vA5lB
3. No coating at all, just raw wood with no Protec protective sheet on the face or edges. Photos: http://imgur.com/1CODo http://imgur.com/oKmXW
4. Stickers on the back top are not applied well and are crinkled. Photos: http://imgur.com/qQMZj http://imgur.com/UYYQS
5. No Toetek sticker on the bottom Photos: http://imgur.com/LgRcy http://imgur.com/AH9zN
6. Poor quality finish on the shoulders Photos: http://imgur.com/MDiE3 http://imgur.com/i4mA1
7. Poor quality rubber casting of the GM logo on the grip Photo: http://imgur.com/D9Aei
8. Bottom profile on the toe seems thinner than other photos on the net Photos: http://imgur.com/1CODo http://imgur.com/c9h5j
9. GM Hologram? Other GM bats I have seen on the web do not have this hologram. Photo: http://imgur.com/FL3hH
The full album of pics is here: http://imgur.com/a/79OgM
Can anyone else help me identify if this bat is a real English Willow GM Luna 505 or have I been ripped off and purchased a copy / fake bat?
Thanks! |

Posted - 16/03/2012 : 13:53:28 I used to have a legit GM before it cracked and i bought that in Australia. It was also made in India but from the sounds of everything below i would say its a fake.

Hi Mike
Thanks for your posting and message. Sorry for the delay in replying but I have been overseas for a wee while.
From the pictures I would say that this is a GM bat made by our official, approved licensee in India.
Not sure if my conclusion helps or hinders you,but that is my view!
Kind regards

Posted - 04/03/2012 : 17:51:42 A number of Australian retailers sell Indian made GMs. GM have slightly differing models for the Indian market and they're made in India.
As Australia allow parallel imports, whereas the Uk don't, some of these Indian made GM bats (which are genuine, but made specifically for the Indian market) end up on the shelves of the Australian suppliers and on eBay. |

Posted - 29/02/2012 : 22:18:01 Most defiantly a fake, not a Luna profile and no scooping. The stickers for fakes are not bad but fake no embossed writing and no ToeTek and poor face stickers with Bouchers name on. GM bats have always been made in Nottingham, they looked into making in the sub continent but decided the finish and overall product would be better if made in the UK using DXM (CAD,CAM) It is always best to buy from a reputable dealer to buy your bats from, even the best dealers use ebay if you look. |

Posted - 25/02/2012 : 14:41:39 Think Ed said bats made for the UK market English Willow are , however i believe other countries bats maybe different. Moral of the story is you have no come backs from buying off eBay, you could easily have wasted your money. There are tons of Stickered up bats on ebay, for the sake of a few quid i would rather get the assurance of a buying from a reputable retailer. |
