Watching SA v India ODI and Smith has switched from Apex to Luna. Just got out and Botha's arrived at the crease with one. Not seen a pro with one all winter and now 2 in a minute.

Got myself a GM Hero 808 last year and must say that I was a bit disappointed, toe guard came off pretty much straight away and one yorker in the nets and a big crack started to form near to the toe. Went back to my old Lords bat from 10 years ago and just use the Hero in the winter now, as I said disappointing.

i would agree with busty, ive held brad haddins bats before they were sent to him and they are totally different to the kooka beast witch was what he was using at the time, more like the shape of a gn legend of players

Without seeing the bat it is too hard to tell. I would say that if he is using it, then he is an exception because I'd say 90-95% of batsmen never use the same shapes as what is sold to the public, some will have minor tweaks while others can be vastly differen't, but in general stickers are what manufacturers use to entice people to buy the bats. Just look at most pro kookaburra gloves, most are sausage finger when stores sell split finger ones which are differnt to the pro ones but the colours are the same and in the same spot to make it look liek they are using the same.

For me it is a Luna, reasons being:

1. The shading of the Gold bits would indicate that the wood in the middle is higher than the sticker and hence causing the shadow.

2. Most significantly is the sponsors sticker that is added to the bat once GS takes delivery of it and by the S there is a gap which again would indicate that there is a difference in height of the wood.

Taking those two into account, I would say that GS is using a geniune Luna.

Decide for yourselves yo.

The scoop is an exception because back then they didn't have techniques to make the bats really big and really lite, so they just took the wood out in the middle. Can you see where I'm coming from though, why would he need to have the wood taken out which is more do do with weight than anything else, when he can have a massive bat that is still relatively light.

So has anyone netted with a Luna yet? I really like the pick up but am interested in people's views who've hit with one before I buy

Peitersen and Flintoff used the woodworms which had bits cut out
Nick_Admin Posted - 18/01/2011 : 09:17:30
@butsy17 , Collingwood used a similar bat when slaz launched it a few years ago. Strange cuts out the back to stop it wobbling.

Brian Lara did okay with his scoop!!!!!!!!!! from memory he scored his first record breaking score of 375 with a Gray Nicolls Scoop.

By colour I mean heartwood or no heartwood.

I thought it was common knowledge but I am telling you, a pro would never use a bat that has had that much wood taken out of it, it is ridiculous ot think otherwise.

It is hard to tell because of those stickers on his bat and because it is night time but look at the apex he was using in december 2010 -

http://www.gettyimages.com.au/detail/107553971/Getty-Images-Sport - clearly not the apex profile, he simply uses the stickers

Why would a pro who has their bats made to their specific specifications, change the profile of their bat in a month and to something like this when they can have bats made to the exact size, weight, colour etc. If they wan't a lighter bat, they can have thier bats dried alot more which means they wont last as long, but when you get between 6-20 depending on how many games you play per year, you dont need them to last

He is using Luna stickers and not the Luna bat.

The only player I know who has used the a bat that has had wood taken out like this is Daniel Vetorri

Certainly does look like a Luna.

"They just switched their stickers, pros would never use a bat like that." is a ridiculous statement to make about a pro.
