Posted - 23/03/2011 : 16:36:19 One of my 2009 GM Orginal Teknik pads has been damaged and I wondered if there was any way to repair it. When carrying a battery pack, the acid leaked out while I was wearing them, meaning acid went over one of the pads. This has destroyed the leather on the knee role, leaving it very baggy and a beige colour. In time, this will fall off, leaving it exposed. Furthermore, most of the stitching around the upper part of the knee role has come away. Can the finish of the pad be replaced or are there any alternatives?

Posted - 25/03/2011 : 13:43:00 Ryan : Your pair of pads look like an interesting project. You can do what James Cameron did with Terminator and revive your pads in to something extra ordinary. I can think of filling the gap with thick sheet of rubber and patching it up using an old pair of jeans or something [light colour]. Sew it up nicely using fishing line.
Tape over the seam once you have finished and pat yourself on the back for a job nicely done. |

Posted - 24/03/2011 : 15:59:28 CE and Kite are 2 different Certificates.
CE is base standard where the Kite Mark is obtained using stricter testing methods. (as in GM)
All soft goods sold around the world carry a CE label (I think the cost price is US$0.01 per label depending if the printed fabric is satin or woven fabric).
Google "BS 6183 Cricket" and the results are there for all to see.

Posted - 24/03/2011 : 12:30:00 Players get hurt everyday using soft leather goods from various brands which are made in Pakistan/India/China/New Zealand etc etc
How many of these brands have taken out Public Liability Insurance ?
Bottom line is that there is zero policing in the UK for cricket products. |

Posted - 24/03/2011 : 09:38:56 Omega people (kids) just dont understand this , they think its as simple as importing pads from abroad plonking a sticker on them and wayahh im a "brand" , Wayahh, wait until some kid gets injured wearing them and they are in court lol. (or prison) |

nope Omega , but seeing as he already had them they were used as an example
The point I was making Nick was that very very very few brands actually do send there products for BS 6183 testing under the PPE Directive for CE Certification.
I know GM do for a fact.
Maybe other brands can correct me on this issue.

Posted - 24/03/2011 : 09:17:36 Ryan , thats an open question as all the people who side with their own brand will suggest theirs (makes sense) Id stick with GM (see i use them) but there are lots of quality brands out there. |
