I swapped 2 old bats for a GN Strike, and i could swear they have covered the face of the bat with what looks to be a thin piece of card with nice straight bleached grains, is this allowed?

I saw this on a couple of Oblivions in Oxford on Saturday. Looked really sh!t, and the worst thing was, the back of one showed it was half heartwood and had loads of grains. I suppose it's no real hardship to remove it, but you'd be gutted if it had a nasty knot smack in the middle of the face.
