Australia is getting desperate after axing Doherty and bringing in Micheal Beer over Hauritz who scored 146 and got a 5 wicket haul in a current first class match. Beer averages over 39 in first class cricket and i haven't heard of him even though i live in Australia, do you think it will work or not?

indeed Stephen is very very good in terms of averages, 23 with the ball is outstanding! 46 with the bat would make him a very handy no. 8

I can't understand why Stephen O'Keefe isn't in the squad. He's one of only 2 spinners in Oz with an average under 40, the other being Byrce McGain. SOK averages 23, is good with the bat and a fine fielder.

Another plus point is that his 7 wicket haul came against Sri Lanka A. His proves he must have some serious talent, as the SL A team was full of good players of spin.

Hauritz and Khawaja come in gg!

that was why i was annoyed when i thought about it. i mean, they're basically batting with ten poor batsmen, plus ten runs (from ponting)
Bob Martin Posted - 20/12/2010 : 09:39:44
In the form Ponting is currently in his damaged finger might be a blessing in disguise for Oz, because whoever they replace him with couldn't possibly do any worse.
ammo500 Posted - 20/12/2010 : 01:04:52
why not he has scored over 250 runs in his last 2 innings, batting better than most of Australia's top order, but if anyone comes in for Ponting will be Khawaja, still think Hauritz should come in instead of Beer, on or the other will be playing its the mcg good pitch for spinners.
The Man Hatter Posted - 19/12/2010 : 23:50:54
If Ponting is ruled out with his broken digit, Oz could bring in Hauritz for his batting at 3!

Whatever the reasons for the ever-changing Oz selections... it seems to have worked.. because England have come down to earth with a mighty big bump. From being hot favourites to win the series it now looks as if we might struggle to even retain the Ashes. But I did suggest before the first test that we were perhaps writing Oz off too soon..

and 25 with the bat, he could have gone in for north, Hauritz not named in the 12 man squad and Beer is...

Yeah I agree. To be honest I thought North outbowled Doherty in the last test. With the quality of spinners we have in AUS we could use north as the spinner and a very handy lower order bat (on his day) still have Watson as the allrounder and yeah then have clarke to bowl his nudies as well.

SS did you say the same comments about the english teams when they couldn't win back the urn from the late 80's onwards! Just they way it goes with all sports, have to go through a lean trott to get back up the top.
ammo500 Posted - 11/12/2010 : 06:40:16
playing club cricket i am surprised that there are nearly no spinners, i think Hauritz is still the best spinner atm, the Australian batting line up is horrible if the selectors gave hodge and hussey (david) a chance the team would be looking a lot more threatening. Why are AUS still looking for all rounders, they only need 1 and that is Watson, I think Clarke would be bowling more if it wasn't for his back.

I feel sorry for David Hussey, FC average of 55 and not even a look in. Probably too late for him now too.
O'Keefe played against England in the warm up games, surely he should be given a go. He's far more experienced in the First Class world with his 10 FC games :P

australia are such a terrible joke, it wouldn't be a suprise to find them on sickipedia...
