Posted - 12/08/2010 : 21:17:07 Hi,Approaching the latter end of the season, i have begun to wonder what might lay ahead for the rest of the year. With Winter coming, the norm for all non-pro players is for their cricket fitness to slip over this time leaving them with an up hill struggle to get into shape at the beginning of the new season. I Was wonering if anyone had devised/or come across a winter program for a fast bowler to undertake. I would be looking to imrpove speed ( running and bowling), aswell as power. These in turn would help me to bowl faster which is my goal!! Any Help would be much appreciated LeGfLiCk

Posted - 03/01/2011 : 15:33:39 Hi,in relation to FW 14, this may be a dead topic now but i would highly recommend your purchase the fast bowlers bible and SAQ ( speed agility and quickness) in cricket.The FBB was written by Ian Pont, the world renowned fast bowling coach and provides you with the truth to get quicker. It has plenty of drills ad tips included. The SAQ will help all of your game but in terms ofbowling it improves run up speed,arm agility and arm speed which are all key in bowling fast. LeGfLiCk

Posted - 02/01/2011 : 20:44:35 for me being slightly older, i try and do loads of cross training (so your not killing the joints, plenty of press ups and sit ups (great iphone apps to track 200 situps and 100 press ups)
and hit the squash courts more competitive sport with awesome fitness required if playing a high standard
weights aren't my thing but im trying this year
also plenty of off road mountain biking and road cycling build up stamina, any sport helps look at jimmy anderson he's hardly ripped but very fit

oh sorry i almost forgot about this topic, soz i would say weight training is useful because it helps you propel the ball further. For weight training you don not meed to go to the gym you can jut buy a set of dun bells (cost about 30 quid)and with them you can do various exercises to train many muscles. p.s. you want to be lean not a tank because you can slow down with the extra weight.

I'm guessing you'll naturally gain pace as you fill out.

Posted - 19/08/2010 : 21:05:04 This is sort of on topic. Im 16 and bowl about 63 mph, i consider my self to be very talented at swinging the ball. No change in grip, slight change of wrist position, and i can swing it either way. I would love to be a proffesional cricketer, however i feel that i am far too slow at the moment to progess up the teams at my club, so this winter i will be looking for various ways to improve my speed. However, before I embark on this, i would like to know if it is possible for someone at my age to dramatically increase my pace.
I aim to be able to bowl in the low 80's, that would be an increase of 20 mph, is this increase possible?

Posted - 13/08/2010 : 08:24:00 being a fast bowler and having winter just pass, i go to the gym 4 days a week 2 of the days i run 2km and then hit the weights room, exercise legs and shoulders (and upper body). the other 2 days i row (very good exercises nearly all muscles)for 40mins and then some light weight training. Go to the nets 2wice a week. eat healthy, if you drink alcohol keep it down to 1 day a week or 1 drink daily. Eat lots of veggies and apples, for a energy snack have a banana or a banana smoothie. if you don't have access to the gym do a5 squats, 15 push ups and then 15 pull ups do this repeatedly as many times as possible for 20 mins it's a very good full body workout
