Posted - 31/10/2009 : 12:00:19 Thanks Lucifer
Sounds like a great buy chap. I may have to review my Salix in this topic area too, but got to replace the batteries in the digi amera first and get some pics. Is there anywhere on this site that explaines how to download pics to here easily? |

Posted - 31/10/2009 : 10:49:27 Well i'll give a brief outline. Decided i needed a new bat last year (harrows were far too small ) and i'd shot up! Wanted to go and see my bat being made there and then. And i found salix offered this service. After a long journey to Kent and my poor map reading skills finally arrived at the workshop. Had to wait a fair amount of time as there were about 10 people in front of us! They called me through to the workshop for my turn. I showed Andrew the bat (and friend very kindly let me borrow) to copy the shape as it was an older profile. I was showed a great piece of willow for mine to be made, but i spotted one that was a beauty. Nice clean grains and a butterfly stain on the face. I asked if i could have that cleft instead. I was told yes and Andrew said he was surprised as he had being trying to sell it for weeks as it was such a good piece of willow, but everyone turned it fown due to butterfly stain. BARGAIN!! Bat was received about a 2 weeks after i went to the factory (had to be sanded, binded etc). Definately been my favorite bat and has been used in all matches, including a trip to the Carribean. Hope its still in tact for a few more seasons! Phewwww glad thats over!!!
Oooh and weighs 2lb 8, low middle, surprisingly good pick up with low middle and no concaving. |

Posted - 31/10/2009 : 10:31:34 So Lucifer - as you have been using this classy looking piece of willow for some of this season, were you going to tell us of your adventures together, and do a more detailed review in this section? How it plays, balance, pickup, feel and pin-o-meter? Great shots you have played? |

Posted - 31/10/2009 : 10:29:35 Know the feeling - my lot are always nicking gear from my bag, and we worked out that I own one bat which, despite my never actually using it, has made over 1000 runs this season. |

Posted - 31/10/2009 : 10:20:33 I really like that Praestania, looks superb. |

Posted - 31/10/2009 : 10:11:30 Well - i have to persuade a friend or two to take delivery of any new bat I buy, or the missus would cut off my inheritance! Or cut off something else!!! And I am almost like the bat supplier for my entire team!! Women buy shoes and handbags - we buuy bats!! Simples Pssss! |

Posted - 31/10/2009 : 09:25:44 Nah - she'd just point out that I have more bats than the rest of our first XI combined. Which, sadly, is actually true! |

Posted - 31/10/2009 : 08:57:06 The GT and Mjornir are 2 very different bat profiles. They both seem very nice balance and quality though! The Mjornir is traditional profile with a lower middle. But considering the middle is lower, the pickup is still beautifully balanced - I was expecting it to be more bottom heavy but it feels surprisingly better balanced than that! And the GT has a higher middle so the pickup feels lighter anyway. Both feel great, but I haven't had a chance to use them in anger yet!! They both feel like quality bats when you handle them and hit them with a mallet. But I will only be able to judge for real when I take them into the nets after Xmas. From first impressions, I would say that they are decent bats! |

Posted - 31/10/2009 : 08:27:59 Ive used it all of the season just gone. Has been great. Got some trainings planned over the winter and will use it on the bowlng machine too. Its in a worse state than it looks here though! |

Posted - 31/10/2009 : 08:22:56 I know its obsessive!!! And even if I think about the absolute minimum I would want to keep, then I would still have 10! But I will sort them at some point in Spring clearout! So you could tell the Missus how good you are compared to people like me! ;-) So Lucifer - when are you gonna use that Salix?? |

Posted - 31/10/2009 : 07:52:15 sh1t - and I thought I was obsessive about my gear. Puts the dozen or so in my garage to shame (not as I'll be using this as an argument with the missus!) |

Posted - 30/10/2009 : 23:07:32 Looks as though I have 24 at the moment. They are:
Laver & Wood Private Bin Laver & Wood Firefly Laver & Wood Churchill Millichamp & Hall Harlequin Screaming Cat Series 1 Professional Salix Praestantia Performance (newer type) Salix Praestantia Select (older shape) Warsop Venom Pro Newbery GT 335 SPS Newbery GT 335 Players Newbery Mjornir SPS Bellingham & Smith Fireblade Bradbury Custom made County Clipper CC Limited Edition Gray Nicolls Longbow Performance Pro Gray Nicolls Powerbow Carbo Kookaburra Kahuna Mayhem Kookaburra Angry Beast Gunn & Moore Hero 909 BAS Shadow Limited Edition Choice Willow Lionheart CA or MB Stickered as Slazenger 389 De-stickered G1 Duncan Fearnley Attack
I honestly haven't used them all yet! The Millichamp & Hall and Warsop are fresh off the press, so haven't used them yet. But both feel like they'll go like a b@#ch on heat! The Laver Firefly did me well this season and am getting used to that one. Haven't even touch a few of them yet, so not sure which one is best yet! Ask me again in 2 years time! :-)
